Rep. Beyer speaks out about Climate Change and joins the House Safe Climate Caucus
Washington, DC. The House Safe Climate Caucus (SCC) today welcomed Congressman Don Beyer (VA-08) as the newest member of the 39- Member SCC team that works to raise awareness of and push for action on climate change.
"Climate change is the existential crisis of our time. We will be judged by the quality of the world we leave to our children and grandchildren.” Mr. Beyer remarked, “ I look forward to working with Chairman Lowenthal and the rest of the Safe Climate Caucus to pursue smart solutions and forge new partnerships and coalitions toward this critical goal."
Before joining the House of Representatives, Mr. Beyer worked extensively on climate change issues through his membership on former Virginia Governor Tim Kaine’s Commission on Climate Change and during his tenure as Ambassador to Switzerland, authorized the first carbon footprint reduction plan for a U.S. embassy, ultimately reducing the Bern facility footprint by 40%.
“I am pleased to welcome Congressman Beyer to the Safe Climate Caucus,” Safe Climate Caucus Chairman Congressman Alan Lowenthal said. ”Our active caucus speaks out about climate change every week in Congress, and Mr. Beyer has already shown great leadership in speaking about the threats of climate change and solutions that we should be pursuing. I, along with my colleagues in the Safe Climate Caucus, look forward to working with Mr. Beyer as we continue to speak truth in Congress.”
The House Safe Climate Caucus was formed in 2009 to raise awareness both within Congress and with the public about the many ways climate change is affecting the world. For speeches, videos, and opinion articles please check out the Safe Climate Caucus YouTube channel and Huffington Post page.
