Safe Climate Caucus Speaks Out in Support of EPA Power Plant Rule
WASHINGTON, DC— Last week, members of the Safe Climate Caucus praised the recent action by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to reduce pollution from power plants, a major step in enacting President Obama’s Climate Action Plan.
In an op-ed in the Huffington Post, Rep. Lois Capps discussed EPA’s proposed rule, celebrating this major step forward to protect public health, slow global warming, and create clean energy jobs. She pointed to the economic benefits of environmental regulations, citing success under the Clean Air Act to reduce air pollutants and grow the economy. Rep. Capps called on the United States to be a leader in combatting climate change worldwide.
In a video, Rep. Alan Lowenthal spoke about the EPA proposed rules on power plant emissions and discussed the disastrous effects of greenhouse gas emissions on our environment. He pointed to last week’s testimony from four former Republican EPA Administrators in support of the EPA rules and criticized congressional Republicans for continuing to deny the reality of climate change. He called on Congress to stop the partisan obstruction and move forward to combat the effects of climate change.
Rep. Adam Schiff spoke on the House floor about the EPA’s proposed rule to reduce pollution from power plants. He applauded the Administration’s efforts to address the increasingly dire consequences of climate change and pointed to the rule’s plan to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and provide cleaner air and water. Rep. Schiff also noted the strong public support for federal regulations to limit greenhouse gas emissions from existing power plants.
